Independent Networks Association

Advanced Utility Networks Charts New Course and joins the INA

In a forward-looking move that reflects the resilience and growth of the UK’s independent utilities sector, Advanced Utility Networks has entered the Independent Networks space with an Independent Distribution Network Operator (IDNO) licence from Ofgem and is on course to obtain a New Appointment (NAV) licence from Ofwat, and the announcement of their membership with the Independent Networks Association (INA), the UK’s leading body for independent network operators.

The independent utility sector has shown robust growth in recent years, currently facilitating around 80% of all new energy connections across Great Britain, encouraged by increasing demand for sophisticated infrastructure such as data centres, electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, and the Government’s push for more housebuilding and efficient water networks. Independent networks such as Advanced Utilities Networks offer developers an efficient connection process and high service standards for customers through guaranteed standards of service.

Nicola Pitts, Executive Director of the INA, commented, “The inclusion of Advanced Utility Networks into our association is a clear indicator of the solid optimism that runs through the veins of the independent networks sector. Our members – working through the competitive network model which drives up standards and innovation – are at the forefront of driving monumental changes, preparing the UK for an upgraded, decarbonised energy landscape and delivering local growth.

Reflecting on this pivotal move, a spokesperson for Advanced Utility Networks shared, “Joining the INA aligns perfectly with our vision to evolve from offering mere connection services to becoming a holistic network operator for our clients. We are excited about this collaborative path forward.”
