Representing the UK’s Independent Network Owners

We are proud to represent the UK’s Independent Network Operators that play a vital role in heating and energising homes and businesses, as well as providing water and wastewater services. Watch this animation to find out more.

Our members have delivered significant improvements in competition, choice and service for customers in the utility market and, together, own and operate utility infrastructure and networks that provide energy, heat, power, water and wastewater to over 4 million households and thousands of businesses right across the UK.

Shaping the future of the water and energy sectors

We are the INA (Independent Networks Association).

We are the voice of the UK’s independent utility networks – created to drive industry collaboration and influence policy that will shape the future of the water and energy agenda.

Leading cross industry collaboration

Before the INA, Independent Gas Transporters (IGTs) and Independent Distribution Network Operators (IDNOs) were represented separately. They were brought together by the INA and has now expanded to cover independent water companies called New Appointments and Variations (NAVs) to provides a single platform for independent network collaboration.

The INA consists of the leading minds and voices of the UK’s Independent Network Operators, who have decades of expertise, and work in collaboration to identify, influence and deliver innovation and ongoing improvements for all our stakeholders and customers.

Enabling the UK to build back faster and greener

The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a slowdown in economic activity and there is a clear need to support the UK achieve a faster and greener recovery.

The INA and our members recognise the important role we will play in driving and supporting the rapid and innovative progress needed to deliver a reliable recovery.

In order to make clear the role we play, the INA has commissioned Tony Hockley, PhD at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) to produce a report detailing the ways in which INA members will support the UK through its recovery and beyond.
